Maria Mack, Paralegal
Maria joined Applegate Elder Law as a paralegal in the summer of 2018. Maria worked as a paralegal many years ago before attending DePaul University College of Law, where she obtained her Juris Doctorate in 1989. Following graduation, Maria obtained her license to practice law in Illinois, where she lived and worked until 2017. While in Illinois, Maria worked in Insurance Defense Litigation for ten years before opening her own law firm.
Maria eventually merged with another group to form a Family Law firm. While her practice was concentrated in Family Law, Maria had a particular focus in child protection matters and guardianships for both children and adults, as well as real estate transactions. Maria served as Guardian ad Litem in Illinois for abused and neglected children. Since moving to Indiana, Maria has been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer working with children.
Maria was active in local bar associations, serving as President of both the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers and the Justinian Society of Lawyers – DuPage Chapter. She was actively involved with the DuPage County Bar Association, serving on several committees and presenting for their continuing legal education programs. She was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association until she and her husband moved to Indiana. A move that was long overdue!
Maria and her husband, Mark, have travelled to Indiana for many years together. They both loved Indiana, especially the Indianapolis area. When Mark received a job offer in Indianapolis, they jumped at the chance to move. A nice side benefit is that they no longer have to leave home to attend their favorite sporting event…the Indy 500!
In her spare time Maria likes to relax by doing a variety of crafts. One of her favorites is card making. Whether it’s a personal card for someone’s birthday or holiday cards to family and friends, Maria enjoys the designing and creating. She inherited her creativity from her mother, who was an avid water color painter.
